York, UK, 18th March 2010
At the Avionics Show 2010 in Amsterdam, 24th-25th March, Dr Andrew Coombes from Rapita Systems will be giving a tutorial entitled: "Software Performance Optimization: How to Avoid Early Obsolescence in Avionics Systems".
Military avionics systems are typically enhanced many times during the lifetime of that system. Many of these enhancements are achieved by updates to the software. Over time, these updates degrade the performance of the software on the underlying computing platform. This can lead to intermittent failures due to timing overruns. System developers then face the difficult choice of either abandoning planned new features leading to capability decay or replacing the hardware, i.e. early obsolescence. In this tutorial, we show that a viable alternative is to optimize the performance of the software as updates are made. This approach provides a cost effective solution, creating the headroom necessary for additional functionality without the need for expensive hardware upgrades.
The workshop takes place at 08.30 on Thursday 25th March. For more information and registration details, please visit http://www.avionics-event.com/index/conference-information/workshops.html
